The Nigerian Association of Women Journalist, NAWOJ, Kogi State Chapter, has condemned in it’s strongest term, the maltreatment and abuse of a young lad, David Matthew, Ewongolu by his step mum, Mrs. Elizabeth Abu.

The Nigerian Association of Women Journalist, NAWOJ, Kogi State Chapter, has condemned in it’s strongest term, the maltreatment and abuse of a young lad, David Matthew, Ewongolu by his step mum, Mrs. Elizabeth Abu.

In as statement issued by NAWOJ chairperson, Mrs Ann Olurinde, described the act as inhuman and outrightly unacceptable, adding that, the young child deserved a better treatment from his caregiver and the society at large.

” Our little children deserve better treatment than this kind of inhumane treatment, children will always go wrong, and that’s why they are called children, but we the parents are to guide them aright and put them on track, with mild punishments and reprimands, but this kind of treatment is out of place, and we request that the perpetrator face the full wrath of the law, so that others can learn and take caution.

My heart bleeds at the sight of the degrees of injuries done to this child for using part of his clothing to make a duster”,she observed.

Mrs Olurinde, who further advocates that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill, VAPP be hurriedly passed into law to avert further abuses and maltreatment of children in the state.

She thanked the state government, the police the NGOs in Kogi who amplified the issue and reported the case to the Ministry of Women affairs, which legal action has been taken against the perpetrator.

The chairperson however called on parents and care givers to be mindful of their children, she urged them to take good care of their wards and ensure that they are kept safe from all sorts of abuses and maltreatments.
